Vincent River (4th to 31st January, 2009)
by Philip Ridley
PRESENTED BY Hot Seat, ROAR Theatre and 2SER, in association with TRS
Vincent River has been murdered in a public toilet. Teenage Davey is haunted by the memory of finding his body, so he begs Vincent’s grieving mother Anita to help him get the memories out of his head. Anita agrees, but on one condition: Davey has to admit to the part he really played in Vincent’s death.
From acclaimed UK writer Philip Ridley, whose controversial Mercury Fur played to rave reviews last year at the Stables, comes this psychological thriller about grief and redemption. Set against an all-too-relevant backdrop of intolerance, Vincent River recently had sell-out seasons on the West End and in New York seasons, where critics called it “exhilarating” (The Independent), “Riveting” (The Guardian) and “Shockingly good! Ridley’s best play.” (Times, London)

The Bullshit Artists (February 3rd - 28th, 2009)
By Adam Brace
"Art is what you can get away with" said Andy Warhol - and conceptual artists Leopold and Loeb (no relation) have a schtick that's been making them millions. Their latest "work" is to commission a sculpture from a fallen star of the art world with the intent of smashing it to pieces. While the artist toils at the behest of his nymphomaniac manager/wife, idealistic young Nat enters the frame. Nat may be the artist's muse, his subject or his saviour, but Leopold, Loeb, the art market and the aesthetics of violence each have their own demands to make of her.

Vigil (3rd to 28th March)
By Moris Panych
Kemp, a self-centred loner, is summoned to the deathbed of an aunt he hasn't seen for decades. She's in no hurry to dies, however, and during his long - and impatient - vigil, Kemp reveals his unhappy past and unpromising future, while pondering ways to help her shuffle off her mortal coil. Gradually they build a connection that transcends misanthropy, isolation and musings on mortality, until a revelation forces them to reassess their relationship. Alternately irreverent and poignant, this dark comedy about death and the bond greater than blood appears wickedly funny on the surface, but underneath is a moving tale of love.
