I want to put a show into the Old Fitzroy Theare, who do I speak to and how do I apply?
Once a year, in early September TRS calls for submissions for the following year's main season. You can download the document from this website while submissions are open. Submissions close in late October and selected companies will be informed before the new year. the new season is launched properly in February. The artistic director of TRS is Leland Kean. All information is available on the submission forms. Submissions cost $25. We program a year in advance and launch our seasons in Feb/March. Slots are unavailable outside this process.
How is the season chosen?
TRS receives up to 80+ submissions per year to fill no more than 10 slots. The Artistic Director and a selected panel of industry professionals read the scripts and select on several criteria outlined in the submission form. TRS is well known for trying out new work, particularly new Australian works. However, this doesn't mean we exclude new international works, classic texts or more well known contemporary pieces. Details including breakdown of production and creative personnel is also scrutinized and can sway a decision.
How does the Late Sessions (8pm Sunday slot) work?
At the end of 2002 TRS started programming a late show on Sunday nights (8pm). This was done to maximise the use of the theatre and to give companies and individuals the opportunity to try out different sorts of performance. To date we have had cabaret, stand-up, dance, multi-media, music and short drama pieces programmed in this slot.
If the mainstage show is short enough, the "Sunday Slot" can become a late night slot (Thurs-Sun).
