The devil is a charming young man…
Gird your loins for Iain Sinclair’s fierce new production of Patrick Hamilton’s classic noir thriller ROPE. Get your vintage dark out for a delicious and disturbing night of parlour room horror. Think classic noir, think murderous sociopaths with great style and a bulge in their trousers.

ROPE, written in 1929 and later adapted for the screen by Alfred Hitchcock, is a psychological thriller in which two privileged young men commit the “perfect” murder. Quoting Nietzsche, they cold-bloodedly murder a fellow undergraduate and, then, in a macabre twist, invite the boy’s father, aunt and three friends to dine off the chest that contains his corpse.

A thriller with a real intellectual and moral backbone, peppered with droll witticisms, the play rides a dark wave of sexual and psychological power as it outlines a compellingly repulsive series of justifications for murder.

Iain Sinclair, critically acclaimed director of Our Town, Killer Joe, Hurlyburly, Lord of the Files and the upcoming Blood Wedding, says of the play “Patrick Hamilton is the master of the thriller form and Rope, alongside Gaslight, is a genre masterpiece. This production will be an exercise in cold stylish terror with lethal sexual undertones”.

ROPE. Pukka sociopaths with great panache at large in Belgravia and Soho.
