The Late Sessions (Late Nights from Thurs-Sat and/or Sun-Mon)

late sessions

A few years ago TRS added a Sunday 8pm slot to its season. This was to firstly maximise the use of the space, but secondly create a space for low-budget, small-scale works or new work in development to be performed at an accessible, respectable Sydney venue. Now the late sessions runs Thurs to Monday (or Sunday and Monday only if the Mainstage show is long)

Please read on for more details on the late sessions and information on how to apply. See below for upcoming shows.

Our 2009 mainstage season will see the simultaneous launch of this program on a larger scale. We also support artists who want to take work from Late Sessions to festivals around Australia. Also are hoping to chart a clear transition path from Late Sessions to the festival circuit back to TRS Mainstage in the coming 12 months.

While the path has not been official - ‘Late Sessions’ shows have gone on to our own mainstage season and have transferred to other theatres: for example Marty Murphy’s comedy Mr Stripey Suit began in the ‘Late Sessions’, and ended up at the Stables Theatre and Linda Jaivin’s Halal el Mashakel also started in the ‘Late Sessions’ and later went on to tour nationally. Allsopp and Henderson's "A Porthole into the Minds of the Vanquished" started in the Late Sessions and ended up at the Soho in London and a return season at the Opera House - Allsopp and Henderson's second work "The Jinglists" was then presented by TRS as part of our Mainstage Season.

We accept submissions for Late Sessions formally in September/October - but we also have space available througout the year. If you are interested in applying for a spot in the Late Sessions program please contact lucinda@rocksurfers.org
