You'll either get used to it, or you'll go bonkers
Produced and Presented by the TRS team, directed by Leland Kean - Rock, Paper, Scissors is a comedy about three men, a lighthouse and a whole lot of spare time!
Pat and Ronnie work the lighthouse at Muckle Flugga on the jagged edge of Europe - neighbour to forty-six million two hundred thousand puffins, rocks and wild ocean. A lighthouse that sits on a rock 70 meters above the deep North Sea, battered by gale-force winds and lashed by waves day and night. Young Dougie is the newest keeper of the light and he's sure he can cope with malevolent Ronnie, the creepy Pat and the mysterious swooping bonxies.
But streetwise can't work without a street, and in Muckle Flugga lighthouse lore leaves Dougie nowhere to hide.
Each week they play “Rock, Paper, Scissors” to determine who will rule the lighthouse for the day. Dougie keeps losing. But Dougie's day will come. He holds the card that will send the men spiraling into a world of isolation, grief and anarchy.
As the days of manned lighthouses draw to a close and the Atlantic fog sets in, Pat and Ronnie must face the world they shun. And may not have them back.
Developed by the Rock Surfers through our Early Sessions program as well as at The Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and the inaugural National Play Festival, along with the assistance of Playwriting Australia, Arts NSW and the Australia Council for the Arts. Rock, Paper, Scissors is John AD Fraser's second new work to be produced at the Old Fitzroy and marks highly anticipated return to the room of TRS artistic director Leland Kean.
